Amelia started modeling in 2003 while in university. She has a visual arts degree from UWO, London, ON, focusing on drawing, sculpting, media arts, sound art, art history, art criticism as well as comparative literature. She sculpts in stone.

She was familiar with the routine of modeling from her own life drawing classes and she enjoys being still. Add that to her experience with yoga, tai chi, modern dance, flamenco, butoh dance and physical theatre, and you have an excellent, well rounded model with lots of experience under her belt.

Amelia likes to play with line and shape, applying the elements and principles of dance in her movements. Short poses provide a possibility of describing diagonal lines; one leads to another in a natural sequence. She equally enjoys long poses and is very comfortable as long as her weight is centered; it is a matter of stacking herself carefully and using support for contraposto poses. She doesn’t mind using props, like a fan or pillow, box or pole, but she warns they can change the reading of the pose. Therefore she prefers the purity of form.

Amelia’s strengths are her absolute stillness, her knowledge about her body’s limitations and movement in general and her ability to maintain her energy level for as long as it takes. She has no problem whatsoever with portraiture as she makes sure her face is always present. “The eyes need to support the movement”.

Amelia is in constant communication with herself, the artist and the space surrounding them. She feels good when she can share everything she has as a model and loves to take that experience home.
