Ewa Mroz

Born in Ottawa into a musical and artistic family I have always been surrounded by the arts. Originally trained as a classical musician, life’s many twists and turns eventually brought me to a beginners watercolour workshop with artist Crystal Beshara where I discovered and fell in love with the medium. Soon after I enrolled in an introductory classical drawing course taught by artist Kerri Weller who brought out a talent I never knew existed. I am deeply indebted to both.

I have a degree in Philosophy and English and currently work at the Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism at Carleton University. Parent to two talented teenagers I still manage to get into my studio every day to practice the disciplines of watercolour, charcoal, pastel and graphite. In 2007 I formally began my part-time art career and started Seventh Sister Studios.

I use realist techniques of old and contemporary masters to portray the divine in the everyday. Person, plant, animal, vegetable, or mineral all hold a fascination for me, as I discover that each contains its own element of beauty. But it is the human face and figure that holds my attention longest because each and every one of us is the true work of art, and we all have a story to tell. I simply try to capture that.
