Iris Arnon

“Art is so wonderfully irrational, exuberantly pointless, but necessary all the same.” – Gunter Grass

After obtaining a Masters in Engineering, working, and time spent full-time mothering, Iris realized the truth of this statement and rekindled her first passion. She shared this passion with the children of Hillel Academy as a volunteer art teacher for many years. She produced pieces with a variety of media including glass mosaic as well as a commission created on computer. In 2007 Iris began to study art more formally through classes at the Ottawa School of art. She studied drawing and painting with Pamela Lasserre. The expressive natures of charcoal and watercolour quickly made them her media of choice. In 2009 she moved this expressiveness to three dimensions when she began studying ceramics with Jim Thomson. Iris currently divides her time between sculptural ceramics, and figurative works in charcoal, watercolour and mixed media.
