I became interested in drawing during my university studies in Architecture from 1982 until 1988. It was a great pleasure to sit in the streets and sketch scenes of my then home town Hannover in Northern Germany or draw from life models in the studio. As my architectural studies proceeded, I focussed more on technical drawing than on free sketching, but I kept on pencilling during vacation travels.

I experienced the summer of 2008 in Ottawa as a revival of my artistic ambitions. Additionally to drawing and sketching I started painting. Classes of Pamela Cockcroft-Laserre, Erin Robinson and Robert Hinchley at the Ottawa School of Art and drawing at the Bottom Line and Sandy Hill life drawing sessions opened a new door for me. I became especially interested in painting the expressions of the human body and the human face. I find it fascinating to portray a familiar person, who at a certain point starts looking back at me from the canvas, and to realize that modifying a slight nuance can change that person’s expression and likeness completely.

I live mainly in Munich, Germany. I combine my work on architectural projects with painting and drawing. And I try to spend as much time as possible in Ottawa, Canada, which became the homeland for my artistic activities.
