I always thought I would paint forests, my favorite place. But it was remarkable people that inspired me to attend a portrait class, using oil for the first time. I wanted to “talk” about them through art.

My favorite medium is oil on canvas. Those featured have survived much, or built much, or fought much to protect what they believe in. I admire the people I paint, using colour to express their spirit, their generosity and determination, even their purpose.

I sometimes rub the paint with a cloth to give an impression of roughness or transparency. Layers of paint may only be in focus areas. The paints and mediums I use are more eco-friendly then conventional oils. The used cloth is set aside for proper disposal, and the solvent is left to settle in a closed jar, the clear portion reused.

I live in the forest with my husband Robert Lovelace and our children Skye and River. I can be reached by email at peridarinc@yahoo.com, or at 613.374.5594. We also have a dog, two cats, and twenty three chickens. The other creatures who live here have adopted us and we appreciate their company very much. We enjoy having guests over for discussion, share a meal, and solve the problems of the world.
