Sandi Fletcher

Sandi was born in Ottawa and was exposed to art at an early age, learning to paint with acrylics by watching her father. She used to sneak over to his pallet at the end of a session and mix the leftover colours to see what she could come up with.

She gave up all things artistic to start a career as a Registered Nurse and later returning to school to become a Library Technician and work for Nortel. A few years ago she found an increasing restlessness, feeling the need to some how express herself artistically. Eventually she found herself drawing cartoons and colouring them with coloured pencils. This reignited a passion she had had for art at an early age and she hasn't looked back since. She is a published photographer and cartoonist. She found a keen interest in drawing the figure while taking classes at the Ottawa School of Art. Currently she does commissioned portraits in coloured pencil, as well as still life painting which she sells at an Aylmer shop. Feeling that artistic frustration starting to build yet again, she started to take Expressive Figure Painting classes at the art school learning to use oils for the first time.

Regardless of the medium she uses, she is drawn to the figure, either in whole or in part, as a means to express herself. She prefers to paint people in a natural way, not formally posed, so she can capture a bit of their personality, attitude, and being,in her works.
